Brief Reflection on the Connections Between their Work Experiences in the Psychiatric

Students are expected to write a brief reflection “paper” (1 page) that addresses connections between their work experiences in the psychiatric unit of the hospital and weekly course content (readings). Students can include parenthetical citations within the text, but are not required to provide a reference list. These reflections should demonstrate critical engagement with concepts, practice models, and work experiences, and end with an integrative question that may be shared to further facilitate class discussion. This assignment requires thoughtful consideration of evolving personal and professional views informed by 3 to 4 of the following

(see grading rubric for additional information)In the psychiatric unit, acute care is rendered to adult patients with behavioral and mental health needs. As the social worker, we work with patients to identify their strengths and resources to prepare them for discharge to a lower level of care in a facility for mental health, addiction, or maybe patient is just released to a shelter or to the home of a loved one. The psychiatric unit is a short term stay for patients usually 3-14 days.
