Students are expected to write a brief reflection “paper” (1 page) that addresses connections between their work experiences in the psychiatric unit of the hospital and weekly course content (readings). Students can include parenthetical citations within the text, but are not required to provide a reference list. These reflections should demonstrate critical engagement with concepts, practice models, and work experiences, and end with an integrative question that may be shared to further facilitate class discussion. This assignment requires thoughtful consideration of evolving personal and professional views informed by 3 to 4 of the following
1)What evidence base exists for this approach?
2) Is this approach applicable with individuals/families/communities from oppressed and/or marginalized groups?
3) Are there any controversies surrounding this approach, topic or theory?
4) Is the approach compatible with our recovery orientation and applicable with individuals from oppressed and/or marginalized groups?
5) Are approaches useful for crisis intervention or short-term work?
6) What did you learn about yourself in reflecting on this content?
7) What are the challenges to this practice model/concept unfolding in a dynamic political, social, economic, and legal environment where people are served?
8) How does this material connect with (or could) with your field placement experience this semester?
