The paper should be at least 3 pages long (typed, double-spaced). Ideally, it will be on the same topic as your progress report, so that you can build upon what you have already written in your report by developing your argument (as well as the objections and your responses to them) further. If you wish to change your topic you can, though, as long as you write on a topic in biomedical ethics. The paper should include: a) a clear statement of your ethical thesis or position; b) at least two reasons for that ethical thesis/position; c) at least two objections to your views, along with d) your responses to those objections and e) use of some material from the lectures and/or readings (e.g., you might use ethical principles we have studied as reasons for your position, or use articles we have discussed to support or raise objections to your view). You must use and include references to (in parentheses, footnotes, or notes at the end of the paper) at least two sources (sources may include articles in our textbook or even class hand-outs, as well as ones not included in the class materials). You may use any format you like in citing the sources, as long as you include the relevant information about the sources (author, title, page numbers, etc.). The due date for the paper is July 2.
