Title: Christian Science.

Introduction: Religion is the central part that defines people’s identity. The word religion has been defined in different ways around the world, and one of its definitions in the Latin language means “to tie or bind together.” However, religion is known as a set of beliefs that are believed by a group of people concerning a supernatural being and include rituals as a form of worship. Religion is being part and parcel of society and culture.

Thesis statement: Hence, the following paper will analyze the American-Born Religion called Christian Scientist. Moreover, the paper will analyze the sociology of religion paradigm of the religion and summarize its impact on American society. Lastly, the paper will describe whether religion reflects a Christian worldview.

1st paragraph

Topic sentence: The Christian scientist is one of the largest religion in the United States today. It is a religion that is believed by members from the church called the Church of Christ, Scientist.

1st supporting sentence: The Church of Christ was first built in 1894 in Boston, Massachusetts. The religion of Christian Science grew so fast in 1936, adding up to 270,000 members from the United States. The members of the Church of Christ started declining and reducing in the 1990s to just about 100,000. It further reduced to about 50,000 in 2009.

2nd Supporting sentence: Additionally, the church was begun by Mary Baker Eddy, who was born in New England. He believed that he was envisioned to begin a true religion that will serve Christ in the truth. She became very popular through her book called “Science and Health that she wrote in 1875. The book explained how sickness could be healed through prayers and not by medical ideas.

2nd paragraph

Topic sentence:  There are two sociological paradigms, such as functionalism and symbolic interactions, that can explain the religion of Christian Science.

1st supporting sentence: According to functionalism, Christian Science was very influential to people in the society of the United States because of its ability to adapt to the different functions that show how society works.

2nd supporting sentence: According to Symbolic interactionism shows that the members of Christian Science used a face to face concept to meet people from different parts of the United States and sell the idea on the benefits that their religion offers. They also used symbols such as Jesus’s crucifixion to remind them of whom they worship and the power that they have over sickness.

 3rd paragraph

Topic sentence: Christian Science has impacted American society by providing information in the form of newspapers.

1st supporting sentence: the newspaper called “The Christian Science Monitor” has had a great impact on the society where it gives a daily update about social, economic, and political issues.

2nd supporting sentence: The newspaper was founded in 1908 by Mary Baker Eddy, which has been reorganized by many people in the community even to the point of winning several awards.

3rd supporting sentence: The religion has had a huge influence on the community through instilling discipline and good morals to its members.

4th paragraph

Topic sentence: The religion of Christian Scientist reflects the Christian worldview where they believe in the trinity of God.

1st supporting sentence: the Christian Science religion believes that there is an existence of a sovereign God where it makes them reject the concept of dualism. Dualism is the concept that explains how matters existed through science and not from a supernatural being.

Conclusion: Christian Science was formed on the base of God being the supreme being that made everything that exists both on earth and in the universe. The members are famously known on their belief of not accepting medical help for healing diseases and only focus on prayers. The religious organization has made a great impact on society through the daily supply of information about economic, social, and political aspects.

The following article talks about religion and modernism by referring to the Christian Science religion, which was researched by Mina Loy and Joseph Cornell. The author tends to show one of the influential religion that was made by a woman. This article will help me to do my research because it has more information on how Christian Science has influenced religion and modernism.

This article gives more detail about the history of the religion of Christian Science and how it influenced a lot of Americans. The author showed how it was hard for a woman to be a leader in the society and still have the ability to make people believe in her ideas. The article will help me to do my research by giving me a background on how Christian Science began.

Eddy, M. B. (2018). Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. BoD–Books on Demand.

This book was written to show how the idea of Christian Science was influential to the people in the society. The Christian Science believes that their members should not go to hospitals because it shows a lack of faith and an abomination to God. As a result, this book will give me more information on the relationship between health and scripture.

This book talks about how the United States is influenced by different religions and popular culture. The book gives a voice to different religions in American and how they where started. Furthermore, the books show different ways and methods that show the relationship between religion and popular culture. As a result, this book will help in my research because it is recommended as the best teaching book about American religion

Fraser, C. (2018). God’s perfect child: Living and dying in the Christian Science Church. Picador.

The Journal talks about the life of the members of the Christian Science religion and how they are influenced to believe in a cult that blinds them from the truth. The author tries to explain how the Christin Science religion began and how it has affected the lives of many people by laying to them to omit medication and focus on prayers.

This journal gives a wider and deeper perspective on the thoughts and ideas that Mary Baker, the founder of Christian Science had. She believed that material things were part of the devil’s destruction to Christians not to believe in the power of God. To some writers, her ideas were in the form of art that showed the existence of two worlds that a person can access and get whatever they want through strong belief.

This book gives a description of how different religions began in the United States. It shows how one person developed ideas about certain gods and began to influence a huge group of people within a short period of time. Today these religions impact economic, social, and political aspects in the society.

This article talks about the lives of the apostles and the modern religions. It is believed that what the apostles used to do and believe in is not what many religions portray today. This has brought a lot of confusion about what religion to follow despite having a strong belief in the trilogy of God.

She is believed to be a prominent Christian scholar who believed in making the world a better place by showing people the light. Because of her belief, she became one of the most powerful religious leaders in the United States, impacting the society with good morals.

This journal talks about a different perspective on science and religion in America.
