This is a really, really cool paper topic and your thesis is awesome! The trouble is that you don′t quite keep your paper focused on proving it true. Your thesis is about the 1940s since that is when your article was printed. So, while you′re right that your paper should focus on women in business throughout the country, you are limited to talking about businesswomen in the 1940s. This means that the things about the 1960s, 1920s, 1980s, and especially the 2000s don′t really fit. This is why you had such a hard time coming up with things to discuss in your paper–a key reason for why you fell so short of the page requirement.
I suggest you keep your thesis, but maybe tweak it a bit by adding ″during the 1940s″ at the end of it to remind you that you should only be discussing the 1940s.
Part of the assignment required using your textbook for this project. If you had, you would have found lots of stuff to prove your thesis! During the 1940s, women were more active in the public sector than ever before. Elenor Roosevelt (FDR′s wife) was an extremely influential person during this period, for example, and women started working outside the home in all kinds of new jobs. They joined the armed forces, flew planes, built and repaired planes and ships, and even built and repaired cars. Do searches on Galileo or Google Scholar for peer reviewed sources on women during the 1940s and you′ll find lots of great info. Believe it or not, sometimes narrowing your search can help you find useful information more than broad searches can. Since you′ll be using your textbook, you only need 2 more scholarly sources to meet the page requirement.
You′ll need 3 primary sources as well. One will be the article you found about the Business Women′s Circle. Talk about the article explain what this shows about Douglas. You′ll compare this information to what you see women doing elsewhere during this period. Galileo is a great resource for primary sources. In particular, the Library of Congress, and the Digital Public Library are great repositories of primary sources.

U.S History 2
In the 1940s, many businesses belonged to men; if anything, they all did, of them, most were private businesses that helped during the war. Since the 1900s though women had been making money for themselves just never praised or credited for it till the 1940s, this was the start. Then in 1946, was the uprising of more known and credited female-owned businesses and corporations. Such as; Estee Lauder’s facial creams, Ruth Handler, who made barbie dolls, and Brownie Wise, who developed Tupperware also her marketing tactics inspired companies such as Mary Kay cosmetics and Cookie Lee jewelry. This also was when the Women’s Business Circle in Douglas, Georgia, came along and showed the growing influence of women in the American economy. (BWC Meeting,1946)
Compared to the 1940s, the next 60 years showed dramatic change within the business industry and the financial industry for women. During the 1960s, significant cultural changes were altering the role of women in society American. (Kenneth T. Walsh,2010) Such as Isabel H. Benham was an American railroad finance expert. She was the first female partner at any Wall Street bond house in the 1960s. (Isabel H. Benham,2013,p.14 ) That was a big step for women in general before they would have never accepted in roles such as this, with the same level of equality as men.
There were many changes during the 1980s in business, especially compared to the 1920s. Women went from working as Educators, Club girls, social workers, and much more to lawyers, banking, and financial management. (Cope Persis M,1928, p.272). The first Chinese American women judge Yim Cowett. ( Daily Transcript Staff Report,2013). “As the first Chinese-American female jurist in the United States, Judge Cowett devoted her professional and private life to breaking down barriers.” She, along with other females before she broke down many walls for women, the ’80s was the period with the most analyzed growth for women.
Since this last decade, the 2000s, more women have been in charge and running their businesses. Its shown in movies, books, and most of these young girls’ role models own their corps. Instead of just being inn-keepers, she merchants, midwives/ nurses, or a school teacher like Dr. Dexter’s survey showed ( The Journal of Social Forces p. 728-729). We now have females who own private law firms, their fashion corporations, biotechnology corps, and more.
We have seen women in business change from the 1900s to the 2000s From Douglas, Georgia, and all over. Businesswomen continue to grow, meet standards, and become to centerpieces. These women have become people such as Madam CJ. Walker, Coco Chanel, and Olive Ann Beech, while still owning their million-dollar empires today.
