Title: Frantz Fannon
Question- Write in the Discussion Board how his approach to colonized mindsets about race impacted the way you understand Caribbean literature now?
My classmate comment(Shermaine Keys ) : Fanon’s explanation about colonialism makes complete sense. He states that those who are the colonized race of people become the race that is inferior to the race that colonized them. The colonizer’s customs and values become the way of life for the colonized individuals. in this instance, the white settlers are the colonizers and the natives will be the colonized. Fanon expresses how the natives constantly attempted to improve intellectually so that they could be equal to their white counterparts. However, his explanation shows that regardless of the strives the natives make in order to showcase their intelligence and behave as civilized citizens, they will never actually be seen as civil beings. He explains, when colonized blacks would take on the ways of white society, they ran the risk of losing their own identity. America wholly dominated the white industry, and through their customs and ways, the overall society is structured. Whites set the standard of approval for just about everything in America. We know, that Blacks will never forget their identity, but they would often go to white-run institutions to take up the ways of white society to better their own lives.

Write an entry in which you share your analysis of “Children of the Sea” by
My classmate comment(Jade Martinez)Title: : Children of the sea was written in a way where the two protagonists only way to keep in contact was through letters. The man who had fled Haiti was in love with a woman who was stuck there. They longed for each other in these letters and in life. So much so that the girl even kept tapes from the mans controversial radio show that she was asked to destroy. We follow these two’s yearning for each other and their tale of love. The time and distance has not made their love dwindle but we see the mans hope dwindle. The man, in the end, seems to know that the end is near. While others are hoping to be rescued he knows that it isn’t likely to happen and he will die in the sea but he will be free from slavery and from the chains as he described. When the girl hears the radio its confirmation that the boat has sunk and. unbeknownst to her lover has sunk with it.
Title:Feminist analysis of Marina’s fragrence(Jade Martinez )
My classmate comment: COLLAPSE
Throughout the story, we have seen the power that the smell of Marina has. Her smell is ever-changing and she. can control it most of the time. In the end, she shows us that. She feels suppressed by the family she works for and the advances that she is getting by a man she doesn’t love that she snaps in a sense. She releases this horrible scent that upsets and nauseated her oppressors. This is connected to the idea of a rebellion because she’s taking the power into her own hands using something that she can control. This will leave an everlasting and horrible mark on the family that she has placed there. We can see that she wants this everlasting bad look that she wants to leave on the family when she states, “Let them say now that blacks stink!”
