The Assignment:
To be an effective researcher, you need to know how to find books, cite sources, summarize
information, and evaluate materials for your research. Prior to outlining and drafting your
research paper, you will need to specify a well-reasoned plan for conducting and writing up your
research project.
As you are reading your selected articles, plan ahead on how you might use them in your
research paper. Annotate the text, mark parts of the text that are especially pertinent to your
research and identify quotations you may want to use. This will help you save extra time in
the coming weeks.
Your annotations should not only describe and summarize the source, but also provide some
justification as to how the source is credible and in what ways it will be useful to your
research project.
Learning Objectives:
• Conduct effective library research and identify credible sources
• Accurately summarize the main ideas of a source and present the summary in an
academic style
• Critically analyze the value and relevance of each source
• Format each annotated bibliography entry according to an MLA citation style
• Possible grammar points: reporting verbs, connecting words, verb tense, etc.

Mayda, Anna Maria, and Giovanni Peri. “The Economic Impact of US Immigration Policies in
the Age of Trump.” Economics and Policy in the Age of Trump, 2017, pp. 69-74,
London, UK: CEPR Press.

e=70.
Mainly focused on the President Trump’s immigration policies and their impact
on the U.S. economy, the source provides the in-depth quality of details about the effects.
The source has a lot of references and is published by the number of experts from the
immigration and economy fields, which makes the source scholarly and credible. The
author, however, expects the negative economic effects as he lists the possible changes in
the technology industry; he mentions immigrants have a big influence on the Science,
Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) industry. For my research paper to be
focused on narrow topics such as skilled or minor job-holding immigrants and GDP of
the United States, I will only use the information from page 69 to 74. The source will be
used to build body paragraphs of my research paper with source #4 and #5 because the
source offers many credible evidences about the effects.
