The table above represents the descriptive and summary statistics of the two variables that is, Repeaters and Pupil-teacher variable respectively.
The above histogram of Repeaters is has shape that skews to the right hence it is right skewed. The mean of right-skewed data will be located to the right side of the graph and will be a greater value than either the median or the mode. This shape indicates that there are a number of data points, perhaps outliers that are greater than the mode.
The above histogram shows a histogram that has most data points converged at the center. The shape tends to be symmetric taking on a bell-shaped curve. This shows that the data is normally distributed since the mean; median and mode are nearly the same.
Comparative analyses
We will compare the two variables using their summary statistics and box plot results. The total count of variables is 53 for both. Mean of Repeaters is 3.546 while pupil-teacher is 23.576. The standard deviations are 4.734 and 12.116 for the two variables. The minimum and max for repeaters is 0 and 24.33 while pupil-teacher is 6.931 and 58.679. First quartile, median and third quartile for repeaters variable are 0.322, 1.623, and 5.386 respectively. First quartile, median and third quartile for pupil-teacher variables are 0.322, 1.623, 5.386 respectively. We can see the
second variable measures of central tendency are very close as compared to first variable. This means the data is distributed well across the whole spread of second variable dataset.
This boxplot shows the distribution of the 5 point summary statistics across the regions. Sub-Saharan Africa show the repeaters are quite spread than the others on both sides of the median. This shows there is disparity in this region and hence the high number of female repeaters. Latin America region is boxplot is very short meaning that data is very similar hence low numbers off repeaters. East Pacific & Asia is comparatively long but the disparity lies on the upper quartile showing that the difference in repeaters high in one side that the other. Same case applies to Europe and central Asia region where the median is very low showing a low number of repeaters. Middle East & North Africa region, when the numbers are on the low side the data is very similar but it get over to fourth quartile it tends to disperse. This means in small numbers there is few repeaters but in large there a lot of repeaters.
This boxplot shows the distribution of the 5 point summary statistics for Pupil-Teacher ratio across the regions. Sub-Saharan Africa show the ratio is positively skewed with data most of the data leaning towards the higher values. This shows there the pupil-teacher ratio is mostly good nearly half .South Asia is the perfectly balanced one with a normal distribution meaning the opinions are equal on both sides. Latin America region is also balanced by the in the lower portions of the ratio. Europe and central Asia is positively skewed since the disparity lies on the lower quartile showing that the difference in the ratio is high in one side that the other. Middle East & North Africa region are negatively skewed with the bigger distribution being on the upper quartile hence the bigger the ratio the bigger the difference is opinions and they lie in the lower portion of the ratio. Same case applies to Europe and central Asia region.
Hypotheses for Repeaters Data:
H0: The mean of Repeaters Group is equal to 3
H1: The mean of repeaters is not equal to 3
I used a one sample T-test to prove the hypothesis. I run the test at 95 confidence interval.
The results show that at 52 degrees of freedom the 2-tailed sig value is at 0.405. This value is greater than 0.05. Therefore we fail to the reject the null hypothesis that the mean of this dataset is 3.
Hypotheses for Pupil-teacher Data:
H0: The mean of Repeaters Group is equal to 19
H1: The mean of repeaters is not equal to 19
I used a one sample T-test to prove the hypothesis. I run the test with 95 confidence interval
The results show that at 52 degrees of freedom the 2-tailed sig value is at 0.008. This value is less than 0.05. Therefore we reject the null hypothesis that the mean of this dataset is 19.
Conclusion
We can conclude that from the data the large amount of females enrolling to repeat in primary school is mostly at 0. This is can be seen in many regions by in sub-Saharan Africa and south Asia the enrolment is high and this worrying. Looking at the second variable that is pupil-teacher ratio we can see that the major ratio is 20 and most data lying on 30 and 40 ratios. This is good because it’s nearly half. There are areas where there is worry since the ratio are alarming such as Middle East & North Africa and Europe and central Asia region since the ratios are lower points meaning the there is a high number pupils are than teachers.
