In problem-solving essays, writers take different approaches to and focuses on

In this five page paper, you’ll consider one local and/or social issue in order to
identify an ongoing conversation about a problem; develop a research question and
identify appropriate research methods; select, evaluate, and incorporate three
online sources in ways that help you define the problem and help your specific
audience understand the problem and potential solution(s) in new and insightful
ways.
You’ll ask questions about the problem such as: What is the situation and what are
its effects? Who is affected by the situation? Who or what (the agent) causes the
problem? What are their goals? What are the effects and consequences of their
actions? (Palmquist and Wallraff 370). You’ll also suggest a viable solution (relevant
for your community) and consider the solution by asking: “How well does this
solution address the causes of the problem? How well does this solution address the
effects of the problem? To what extent does this solution address the needs of the
people or things affected by the problem?” What are the costs, advantages, and
disadvantages of this solution? (Palmquist and Wallraff 373).
