Are there any ethical issues that may arise if our CJ system uses this perspective? (These are different perspectives then what I chose for my own) Student posts, Ashley The perspective that I most agree with in Chapter 1 is the Rehabilitation Perspective. The rehabilitation perspective is intended for those that have no other help in this world other than the help that society can provide to them. This perspective argues that criminals are the product of a society that has failed them and the rehabilitation perspective sees the justice system as a means of caring for and treating people who cannot manage life without crime themselves. Certain individuals that grow up in social disorganized neighborhoods that lack the education and healthcare compared to individuals in suburban neighborhoods could face harder times managing themselves (Siegel & Worrall, 2018, p. 23). When individuals who face adversity sense that their opportunities to succeed decline they often turn to what they know how to do in their eyes brings them success. In the text book it references drug dealing as a means to survive. The government programs that offer rehabilitation opportunities provide ways to increase these individual’s chances at success by teaching them coping skills through counseling, job skills, and intervention. By providing these types of opportunities, it enables a reduced number in the jails of people who live disorganized lives by improving their way of living with a new way to express their frustrations that they may have never received guidance on otherwise. If society can focus on individuals (young and old) that come from corrupt backgrounds, this could prevent a lot of crime within their communities as well as save tax payers dollars sending them to jail. There are many ways that ethics can influence the participation of the people who are in need of this rehabilitation but I do not believe personally that there are issues that could arise if this perspective was implemented. Ethically, it is the justice systems priority to maintain the well-being of its community and by advocating with government programs they can potentially fix issues earlier rather than later. When individuals who are conducting this rehabilitation operate ethically, those that are socially disorganized will be more open to the idea of accepting the help being offered. April The perspective that I personally agree with is The Rehabilitation Perspective. I have personally been involved with the criminal court on a drug charge. I went to prison, I got no classes that I needed and was in there for 25 months. I did the crime, I was an addict. I have been in recovery for almost 7 years. It was not the prison that done anything for me, however I got involved in a spiritual program for women with outside mentors. It was called Rubies 4 L.I.F.E., this program was for women with children. After seven years I wrote the judge and filed custody of my daughter back. I regained custody a little over a year ago. I payed my DUI fines off over 3,000.00 dollars, paid my back child support over 4,000.00 dollars, and have had a great job for two years. I work all the time, and have accomplished so much in my life. I was addicted to pain pills which took everything from me. I am now in the process of buying my first home, I have a bran new car and by the grace and mercy of a loving God have my sanity back. So do I see this program as helpful? Yes I do! I also dealt with my schizophrenic son last year who almost killed me by strangling me. The state wanted to give him three years in prison, I was his advocate that day, I asked The D A to have him mentally evaluated, take anger management, drug and alcohol assessment, as well as 30 days in jail. He did the crime, he did deserve to have a few days in jail. I also took an order of protection against him. He is now living in his own apartment and taking medication and was diagnosed with schizophrenia. I believe the alternative to crime is a chance for those who have true issues to get a chance to be introduced back into society, the correct way.Equal Justice Perspective
