In week 2 we are discussing the importance of ethics in the human service field! Ethics is not only important to our clients, but also to ourselves in this field. It helps distinguish us from the wannabes to the professionals, and as I have read so many fantastic posts this week I see we have nothing but professionals in our course.  Unit 2.1 DB: Human Services Codes of Ethics Unit 2.1 DB: Human Services Codes of Ethics After reviewing the codes of ethics of the National Human Services Organization, the American Counseling Association, and the National Association of Social Workers address the following questions with examples from the codes of ethics: What are the major ethical principles of human services that these organizations all share within their codes and why are these principles important for human services work? How do issues of diversity, cultural differences, and multiculturalism fit into these codes of ethics? Describe how these organizations incorporate cultural differences of clients into their codes. After reviewing these codes of ethics what would you say are the primary roles and responsibilities of human services agencies and providers? Share with classmates three different disadvantaged groups you are thinking of using for your written assignments: 1. Why did you choose these groups? 2. Share one interesting or surprising fact about each of your groups. 3. Describe one resource you found most helpful as you began research for the first written assignment. Marginalized groups can include any group that has been discriminated against or faced oppression due to being viewed as the “other” in society. Marginalization can occur because of someone’s race, gender, class, sexual orientation, age, religion, or ability. Examples include African Americans, Latinos, women, gay or lesbians, seniors, or people with disabilities. Instructions: Once you have selected a group you will write a 2 page paper on the history, cultural identity, and background of your chosen group. This paper should include: history of the group including major events that have affected them as a group (e.g. immigration to the U.S., historical Supreme Court cases) Major cultural traditions or background Current demographic information
