Here are some basic essay writing tips:

A title that gives your readers a sense of your specific topic. Please avoid topics
that are too general (Precious and WInter’s Bone or Film Analysis). You do not
need a separate title page.

An attention-grabbing introduction. Consider starting with a striking quote or
description of an image from the film. You want to be sure to introduce your
films, including references to their directors.

A clear, argumentative thesis, at the end of your introductory paragraph. What
are you arguing about the relationship of these films? Avoid “announcing” your
thesis with such phrases “in this essay I will . . .”

The body of the essay focused on several around several key points of analysis,
each working to prove your thesis statement. Support each point with evidence
from the film, which should include quotes, examples from the plot, and
descriptions of film technique. You are also required to refer to at least two of our
class readings or videos to help support your analysis.

A conclusion paragraph that ties together the various points of the essay, and
leaves you readers thinking about the topic.

Excellent grammar, punctuation, and spelling, which come from careful editing
and proofreading.
