This paper is designed to provide the international students enrolled in Geog 100 sections
01, 04, and 40 an opportunity to describe and define the cultural differences of their home
country with that of Mankato MN. This assignment is optional, but must be completed and
submitted electronically (by e-mail) by midnight Wednesday May 8, 2019 if you choose to
complete this assignment. Your personal experiences are very
welcome. Remember that this
assignment MUST be written in your own words. Please do not cut and paste anything other than
a map(s) of your home country or this will be considered plagiarism.
Please provide the following.
1) A map or maps of your home country and your home town. These can be from the web or
hand drawn. The maps are the only item allowed to be taken directly from the web.
2) Describe the physical geography of your hometown in your own words. Include climate
(temperatures, rainfall, hazards such as floods or haboobs, and seasonal differences if any). Also
include the tectonic setting (mountains, plains, etc., earthquakes, volcanoes, or any other hazard
that you have experienced). Basically tell me what your home looks like and why it looks that
way. If you have personal images of your hometown area you are welcome to add them as
graphics, but these are not required.
3) Describe the culture of your family and your hometown in your own words. This should
include information on language(s), religion(s), food preferences, holidays (religious and
personal), and anything else that helps make your culture unique. Basically, please tell me about
your hometown and the people that you grew up with so that I can learn more about the
geography of where you are from.
Universal Design for Learning
Criteria: A minimum of five pages (typed please) describing where you are from. Longer papers
are allowed. Maps and images are in addition to the written paper and can be placed at the end as
separate pages. References are allowed, but are not required. I am interested in your own
personal interpretation based on what you know and your experiences. Please describe where
you are from so that I can learn more about the Earth and the people that you grew up with
