Mobile commerce (m-commerce) is a term which refers to business transactions that
are conducted completely on the wireless network. While Mobile computing is realtime and live interactions between the mobile device and the external environment. Wifi is nothing but the short name for wireless networking technology. Now wi-fi is
wireless, unlike other wide area networks which are not. Hence Wi-fi is the need of the
hour in the fast-paced environment that we live in. We are overloaded with so much of
data today — thanks for wireless connectivity. (Rainer, K., Prince, B, and Watson, H.,
2017).
Wi-Fi has indeed reinforced the use of mobile phones even more. It would be
cumbersome if we had to hook our cell phones to the network using a cable in order to
get connected to the internet. Thanks to wireless technology, we can get connected to
the internet on our phone wireless — anywhere at any time. Some wireless hotspots are
free like shopping malls. hospitals, etc.; while some wireless networks are charged
where we pay some fees in the form of buying data and get connected.
Besides, I would definitely say wireless is almost equal to no cost. It is free most of the
times and even if you have to pay, it is at less than $1 per day. There is no need of any
WAN (Wide-Area-Network) with Wi-Fi and the best part it is wireless, imagine not
having to connect to a wall connection to get connected – does it get any better than
this.
The best example to show the impact of Wi-Fi Mobile computing is covering live
events using Facebook Live or YouTube Live or even Instagram Live. I remember I was
involved with covering a one-hour kick-off event in an organization. Now since the
number of audiences that was expected at the event was 1000 people, I just couldn’t
use my phone to stream this live event on Wi-Fi because it would come blurry and not
clear. So, then we purchased a converter that could connect to my camera and to my
Wi-Fi enabled cell phone. So basically the converter (Cerevo LiveShell Pro) allowed me
to record the entire event using my HDMI camera but helped me connect to the Wi-Fi
using my cell phone. And it was magic, the event was broadcast live to all our followers
on social media at great high HDMI clarity and via Wi-Fi connection on my phone.
The best example to show the impact of Wi-Fi Mobile-Commerce is definitely my
regular purchases on Amazon using my cell phone. I have an account set up with
Amazon which is a Student Prime Account in which I get free 2-day delivery. My phone
has Wi-Fi connectivity 24×7 and when I don’t have Wi-Fi connectivity in certain places, I
used data to connect my phone. I use my phone to make purchases from India and the
U.S. and that’s what exactly mobile-commerce is all about – any time, anywhere, fast,
and at really at no-cost.

The wireless connectivity and Wi-Fi are being used in supporting mobile computing and
m-commerce more and more these days. The Wi-Fi network carries the signal between
the communicating devices through electromagnetic waves. This allows communication
to be much more secure and fast. Besides, Wi-Fi is getting much cheaper compared to
cellular technology as lots of the service provider find Wi-Fi service approachable
because it supports mass connectivity with high range of speed.
Wi-Fi these days is now used by the service providers to integrate the locations and
preference of a user such as an ATM location, market, traffic information, and so on.
The wireless network is used for various purposes such as wireless payments,
transfers, mobile wallet, and so on. The m-commerce is the extension of traditional ecommerce but much more flexible as consumer population can access anything from
their mobile.
Mobile computing can be carried out as mobile these days can connect to internet or
intranet through hotspots (access points) and hence m-commerce, computing, and
applications carrying out such operations can be delivered easily with an adequate
speed of the communication. The use of wireless technology is gradually reducing the
need for cellular technology.
The major benefits such as access to information with adequate speed, personalized
content, customized advertisement have made Wireless technology much popular. The
wireless network comes with certain disadvantages of unauthorized access, wardriving,
and network going down due to unauthorized access.

WiFi is a wireless technology that connects such as computer, mobiles and other devices to
connect interface with the internet. Mobile computing helps people to access the information and
data from various sources and from different places no matter where they are living. It helps in
the transformation of data, voices via mobile device. Mobile devices can be connected to WiFi.
We can have lot of advantages from mobile computing such as connections with people,
personalization and social engagement.
Similarly, M commerce known as Mobile Commerce has become the trending in the wold of e
commerce industry which has change the structure of e commerce business. It allows the
customer to do transactions by mobile device, such as smart phone, and laptop. Now a days
mobile commerce are becoming more and more popular because of the people spending more
time in handling mobile rather than computer. Also, the shopping, payment, receiving and
delivery of product has become easy with m commerce.
As WiFi is a wireless technology it supports many of the advanced device such as laptop, tablet
and many more. WiFi is found in office., schools, home and some public area. We need wireless
router to connect to broadband ta home. Our mobile device automatically will remember when
we are about 100 feet of the area. Example: when we are at work, our laptop will connect to
company’s network after we log in but when we are at home our laptop will connect
automatically.

Mobile devices are becoming more common nowadays, and people spend more time
using them with internet connections over and above traditional computers. Mobile trade
is likely to emerge as a prominent method of marketing and selling between businesses
with many applications (Anastasia, 2016).
In the US, Domino’s Pizza also achieved a lot of positive results on a smaller scale
thanks to mobile trade. In 2011, the company announced that mobile devices ordered
13 percent of sales online. The company launched the app on both iOS and other
platforms such as Android or Windows Mobile, pushing mobile device sales to $1 million
a week (Simicart, 2019).
Websites of 150 of the world’s largest retailers had 16.5 billion accesses, according to
the IAB’s 2011 report. Smartphone accesses accounted for 6% in detail and tablet
accesses accounted for 4%. In addition, tablet users spent more than 20 percent
compared to the average customer spending on laptop access (Simicart, 2019). Their
average income was $ 123 per person, higher than that of traditional customers, $ 102
per person. For those through traditional access channels, total purchases over total
accesses via tablets were 2.3 percent compared to 2.5 percent (Simicart, 2019).
Mobile offers many opportunities to connect with new audiences and enable brands to
expand market share as they gain insight into consumer behavior:
Global reach: Mobile trade allows brands to enter markets that they have never before
considered. Two-thirds of the world’s adults are estimated to own smartphones by the
end of 2018. This large user base offers many potential brand sales leads (Anastasia,
2016).
Better data:Mobile trade provides better consumer data for brands as it is part of the
entire procurement process. The consumer enters the store in a traditional retail setting,
makes a purchase and leaves. Brands can connect with these consumers through
purchase with mobile commerce from the moment of discovery, giving the brand access
to valuable purchase intent signals (Raphael JR, 2019).
Rapid expansion: Mobile trade enables brands to avoid problems of market saturation
by changing their slant and focus to distinguish themselves from competitors. They
provide extensive sales opportunities for brands as new markets open up and are
discovered (Raphael JR, 2019).
Scalability:Brands can better scale everything from inventory to marketing through
mobile commerce. For example, when consumer interest spikes and downscale when
interest decreases, they can increase their mobile app marketing (Raphael JR, 2019).
Targeted timing: Mobile trade enables brands to reach consumers at the right time,
whether they are browsing for an item at night or shopping in a shop during a lunch
break (Raphael JR, 2019).
There are many mobile trade advantages for both large and small businesses. The
number of people who own and use mobile devices is constantly increasing, providing a
large and growing marketplace for different goods and services as well as m-commerce
(Raphael JR, 2019).
