Your final project will consist of ALL the required materials that have been compiled during
the semester
1) Site Selection statement
2) Progression Report: (revised edition) Organization and Structure
3) 2nd Progression Report: Due on April 8th which asked you to Discuss what you
have
discovered in your project so far after evaluating your answers to the questions in Step
Three and what you expect from your research regarding the topic. Also, consider what
Archaeological methods were applied, as well as you can discern, to bringing your site to
life? (Obviously large monuments were very visible – in this case you would need to address
the combination of history/documents/archaeology to answer this question.

4) Final Project Completed in Folder Printed and submitted in person) Your final project will
consist of all of the above with any changes recommended following the Final Draft
revisions.
Plus your conclusion needs to address the following questions in a one-two page
concluding remarks!
1. What role does your ‘object or site play in rendering a deeper understanding of the

The Egyptian Scarab Amulet
07-04-2019
mtroduction
For thousands of years, scarab Amulets were carved in Egypt. It was believed that
wearing a scarab Amulet brought a long life and protection. Egyptians wore scarabs for
protection from evil and harm, and they at times carved the name of the pharaoh as the pharaoh
was under the protection of all the gods. The scarab was typically associated with long life, and
scarabs were placed on the mummy to give new life after death. Indeed, the hieroglyph for
scarab means “to exist.”
Discussion
A group of Israeli students unearthed an Egyptian Scarab Amulet that dated back to the
Egyptian golden age and belonged to the time of nineteenth Dynasty, during the reign of
Egyptian Pharaohs c. 1292 to 1189g B.C.E. The artifact was discovered during their excavation
of Seppboris site, in Israel. The Egyptian Scarab Amulet was revealed to be 3,300 years old.
Thanks to the educational program that was aimed at taking students out of their classroom to
instill a sense of connection to their history, the 10th graders who were 350 in number; from
Kiryat Bialik High School conducted an archaeological excavation trip that took them through
Galilee: This archeological excavation lasted for a week.
As analyzed by Dr. Daphna Ben-Tor, who was then Israel Museum’s curator of Egyptian
archaeology, the discovery was an Egyptian Scarab that was commonly used as amulets for any
individual who could afford it. In several cases, the Egyptian Scarab as much as it was wom by
the living was also used as burial amulets. Even more, they were generally set initially in rings.
目。
When the group of 10th-grade girls set out for the archeological excavation, they probably
expected to play with dust while digging for artifacts. Whatever they expected to find, was not to
astonish them by attracting the attention of several archeologists all over the globe. Well, these
girls students were helping archeologists on the excavation site when they stumbled upon the
scarab amulet which was fingernail-sized. It was exciting considering that this type of artifact
was usually found in graves and not out in the open.
SMD
The artifact was discovered at a dig that was being conducted as part of the preparations
for the creation of a new access road. Therefore, the archeological method that was used by these
students is that of digging. The students who dug up the artifact- which symbolized the ancient
Egyptian presence in the modern Israeli city and signified the period that it existed and its nature-
had spent the entire week helping with Israel Antiquities Authority excavations all over Galilee.
For a long time, Sepphoris has provided several findings from the Paleolithic period all
through the Ottoman Period. The Tzipori (Sepphoris) village in Israel’s Galilee region has
revealed diverse and rich archeological and historical findings. Sepphoris is best remembered for
the later Jewish history. Located 3 miles to the northwest of Nazareth, this city was Galilee’s

capital under the dynasty of Jewish Hasmonean until about 20 C.E. Tiberias then replaced it as
Galilee’s capital under Herod Antipas. Well, Galilee is one of the most reminiscent as narrated in
the Bible’s New Testament. However, there is the underlying question of why would an Egyptian
amulet be discovered in Israel. As explained by the scholar Peter van der Veen, Canaan was an
Egyptian Province during the 14th dynasty B.C.E. It is also quite interesting that several
excavations at Sepphoris typically focus on the periods that pre-dates the Egyptian amulet, but
the amulet winds up there.
The whole process of archeology brought the Egyptian Scarab Amulet and the site,
Sepphoris into the light. To begin with is the interesting fact that the Egyptian Scarab Amulet
was found in Israel, and not the common assumption that would be Egypt. Even more, the
excavations that were typically done within site focused on the periods that pre-dates the
Egyptian amulet but the amulet wind up at Seppboris, Archeology made all this possible. By
digging up the artifacts, the students were able to discover the scarab amulet thus bringing it and
the site into the light.
Conclusion
The Egyptian Scarab Amulet was a breakthrough in the field of archeology. It was quite
surprising that the Egyptian Scarab Amulet would be found out in the open rather than its typical
location in graves. Of course, the students would not have expected to achieve such a
breakthrough in archeology and the fact that they did prove that a lot can be learned in history
class. Well, one can leam a lot from a history class, but it cannot be compared to discovering that
you are holding an effect from the past that comects you with the country’ legacy.
