Week 1 Public Relations Websites Discussion I need a discussion post for the instructions attached, and a response post to a classmate. I have given you the classmates post at the end of the document. The instructions mention a lesson 1.4, I have hyperlinked it. I also hyperlinked the two websites the instructions mention. If you do need logins for any websites mentioned in the short video, please let me know. I’m not sure if they’re completely necessary, if you can find the information anyways. Discussion Board Overview
This week we discussed the importance of constantly building your personal professional
library to ensure you are staying up-to-date with the latest ideas from thought leaders in
your industry. We also looked at different sources available to you. These sources can be
great starting points for you to find the latest news and ideas within the public relations
discipline. One of those sources is the variety of websites and blogs that are managed by
public relations firms and/or public relations experts. For your discussion post, you will focus
on finding websites that can be good sources for you to keep up with the latest, groundbreaking ideas and trends within public relations.
Initial Post
For your initial post, conduct some online research and find a website similar to the Cision
website and the Edelman website that we found in Lesson 1.4. Once you have found a good
website that you think represents a good thought-leader in the public relations industry, find
a good article, story, or blog post on that site that features some timely and helpful
information. Provide a hyperlink to the site as part of your post, and write three to four
paragraphs about your website to address the following:

Describe the PR firm or the individual that supports and manages the website.
Explain to your fellow classmates what the website is all about.
Identify the specific article or blog post that you found insightful. If it was written by
a named individual, can you provide a background of his/her experiences and
qualifications?
Summarize the article or blog post and explain why or how you feel this will be
helpful information for a rising public relations executive such as yourself and your
classmates.
Each paragraph should be a minimum of three sentences, and the entire post should be wellwritten and grammatically correct. The post should be no less than 200 words and no more
than 300 words.
Response Post
Review the initial discussion board posts. Respond to classmate’s post. Each response should
be between 100 and 200 words. In your responses, be sure to follow the RISE model as your
guide – Reflect, Inquire, Suggest, and Elevate.

The PR firm that I found to be an example of a good thought-leader in the PR industry is BCW. According
to their website, “BCW is a new kind of communications agency focused on helping our clients move,
inspire, engage and lead people in a favorable direction, across all sectors on a global scale” (BCW, 2019).
Furthermore, it appears that the blog page is managed by the Issues and Public Affairs team for the
company.
After reviewing the website, I discovered that BCW’s main focus is how their work impacts people by
concentrating on big ideas that relate to people throughout the world. On the sites Work page, case
studies are provided in order for current and future clients to get an idea of how BCW will communicate
their brand to consumers. Additionally, impressions are attached to the case studies to show how many
people experienced the specific campaign which led to real-world change.
The blog post that I found most insightful, is about how BCW is introducing consulting units to counsel
companies on the growing cannabis and hemp industry. It’s become quite clear over the past couple of
years, that there are many benefits involved with the legalization of marijuana; and, unlike other PR
agencies that I have researched, BCW is the only one discussing how they plan to work with companies in
order to help them gain access to this burgeoning market.
In summary, the blog post discusses BCW’s plans to launch a consulting unit that will focus on helping
companies break into the growing legal marijuana market. BCW states that they will assist companies in
the “…emerging cannabis and hemp space gain market entry, navigate policy…identify and engage the
cannabis consumer and communicate product benefits…on a global scale” (BCW Latest, 2019, para. 1). I
find this information to be very important for future PR executives because we are entering the field at
the same time as this amazing new market. In my opinion, today’s PR executives will be responsible for
future generations engaging with marijuana in a more positive way than previous generations.
