BCC Non European Women Historical Figures Biographies Essay The essay will be evaluated based on the following variables: (1) grammar; (2) knowledge and (3) content of the presentation. Both the mid-term and final exams will be comprehensive. Each of the exams will be based on a 100-point scale.

10 BIOGRAPHIES OF NON-EUROPEAN WOMEN HISTORICAL FIGURES LIVING UP TO 1500!!!

With the exception of India and China, most world history textbooks ignore and/or omit non-western civilizations and their leaders. In addition, these books often ignore the role played by women in these and in European civilizations and nations. To correct this problem, this course will require students to research and prepare bios on women historical figures impacting

civilizations in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Islands. Each bio must provide information covering the following areas:

Birth and death dates

Any data about personal/family life

Other positions, titles… held

Contributions to civilization/nation

Overall historical importance

Any challenges or tragedies s/he confronted

Outstanding accomplishments/achievements

Why this person should be better known

Students are required to conduct independent research to arrive at the 10 women historical figures. These figures must have lived and labored during the period covered in this course [to the Renaissance]. Start with the textbook and move from there. Each of the actual bios must be less than eight sentences. Students must complete these in their own words. Copying from electronic sources will result in an “F” on the assignment. So please use your own words and follow the guidelines listed below. The assignment must use complete sentences [meaning no fragments or listing of data]. Students must consult a minimum of three sources per leader. At least one source must be a book. Include the sources at the end of each bio.

Reminder: Your 10 Bios are due Thursday. Remember: No bio should be more than eight (8) sentences; all statements must be in your own words–no quoting or copying; the women must have been born before the Renaissance era (before or near 1500); the statements must be in paragraph form–no listing or numbering of information, and the historical figures must be women of color.
