Edgecombe Community College Gender Construction and Dichotomy Discussion Discussion board question: answer should be at least 250 words

We have been looking at the concepts of “Sex and Gender,” and how we are socialized in the U.S. to understand gender as a dichotomy – either MAN OR WOMAN. Some people, however, do not identify as one or the other, but both at various times. Others may identify as neither, or possibly as “gender fluid.” Although we will not be going into these topics in depth in this Introduction to Sociology course, the video entitled, “Gender: The Space Between” is a good way to become familiar with some of the gender variation that exists in our society. Using examples from the video “Gender: The Space Between,” explain how gender is socially constructed and therefore a process that humans create. Next explain (and provide examples of) how our culture is built around the sexual/gender dichotomy. Do you think we should challenge this dichotomy? Explain why or why not?
