1 (fb) Engaging in research, bringing the evidence-based best practice ( EBP ) offers the opportunity not only to improve the health of those individuals encountered in daily practice but also to make a significant impact on the lives of patients across the country and internationally through the translation of research into clinical practice (Edwards,2015). In this challenging, innovative, advanced, and evolving modern healthcare, standards of the evidence-based practices (EBP) being the essential core of the organization can improve the patient’s outcomes, implicit the healthcare operations, and nurse’s job satisfaction.
Texas Nurses Association would be my option when thinking of disseminating on a biomedical professional journal. For research results to reach the widest possible audience and be available to practitioners not just today but permanently, they must be published in a journal, since this will ensure that anyone conducting a literature search will be able to locate the study. Our health organization has 160 hospitals in Texas (Gulf Coast Division) and my evidenced based change practice could be applied in our hospitals through the organization and it will be easy to locate the information.
One nursing project presentation, that I would choose, would be at our professional meeting with Gulf Coast Division Organization. Presenting clinical or practice research at a professional meeting offers the opportunity to disseminate research findings quickly, offering the advantage of facilitating a personal interaction between the researcher and the medical staff. Furthermore, those combined meetings, are regularly attended by leaders in the field, who are more inclined to adopt and implement faster evidence-based research into practice.
2 (st) Nurses have a professional responsibility to actively participate in the dissemination of evidence-based practice (EBP) through publications, presentations, presenting at a conference, or writing an article for a journal to change practice and improve patient outcomes (Milner, 2016). Sharing EBP is to bring about change in order to enhance patient outcomes and satisfaction and sharing the results from an EBP project can increase the likelihood of replication or duplication in other similar care settings (Milner, 2016).
One professional journal would be the Journal of Community & Public Health Nursing (https://www.omicsonline.org). This journal publishes empirical research reports, program evaluations, and care reports focused on populations at risk across the lifespan, and there are more than 700 open access, peer-reviewed, and bi-monthly journals. This journal, which is related to public health and community health to promote the health of the vulnerable populations, might be the best option to disseminate my project results for other community health centers to implement the interventions to duplicate the positive outcomes (https://www.omicsonline.org).
One health care conference can be attending Infection Prevention Webinar (conferenceseries.com, n.d.). My project topic is infection prevention and control. Meeting inspiring speakers and experts on infection prevention and control can be a rewarding experience. This webinar is focusing on infection control and measures during COVID-19 Pandemic since it affects every corner around the world. Sharing my project outcomes with other infection prevention specialists from across the globe through conversation, presentations in this global conference would be a lifetime learning opportunity, listening to other renowned specialists. It is very important to share the outcomes of my project because it can provide some insights or ideas to other facilities that have similar challenges or issues in the world. They can implement some of the interventions to try out to improve the quality of patient care.
3 (tw) If we did not already know the importance of evidence-based practice (EBP) and research in nursing prior to entering this program we now know how important and valuable it is now. In order to ensure that the delivery of care to patients is constantly improving, dissemination of EBP and research is necessary. “Although the integration of EBP continues to evolve, the importance of dissemination remains a priority. It is through effective dissemination strategies that acquired knowledge is shared, redundancies in problem solving are eliminated, and further innovations are inspired.” (Williams & Cullen, 2016) One professional journal that I may utilize to present my project is American Journal of Nursing. This journal have been around for years with journals dated back to the 1900s and have a reputation of providing EBP information in a timely fashion. The nursing conference I would choose to present my project would be the Nursing Education Conference (NERC). “NERC will focus on educational research directed toward its impact on clinical outcomes, through oral and poster presentations, educational workshop sessions, and influential plenary presentations.” Because of what the conference focus on this will be a better suiting environment to present my change project.
4 (ds) As nurses our number one goal is to have the best patient outcomes. Evidence-based practice is essential for the bachelorette-prepared registered nurse, and the more one continues their education the more EBP continues to play a role in their work. Evidence-based practice has the ability to improve patient outcomes and will alter the thinking of those utilizing it; it can change the bad habits/incorrect methods used for years by nurses (Importance of evidence-based practice in nursing, 2018). BSN-prepared nurses are strong in leadership and are essential in exemplifying the leadership role by their actions, including using EBP in their practices. Two ways I can continue to incorporate evidence into my practice is to continue reading research from scholarly sources and to attend seminars/webinars with newly presented information to keep educating myself. By educating myself, I can continue to educate others I work with and future nurses to promote the use of EBP in the work environment. However, barriers to implementation of EBP exist, such as nurses that have been in the field for a long time with the mindset that the way they have done things has “worked” and is not worth changing. Other barriers could be a workplace that does not enforce the use of EBP in everyone’s practice. Education is key, whether it be to stubborn nurses or leaders who do not foster the EBP process. By educating the importance of the use of EBP, we could try to overcome these obstacles and improve patient outcomes.
5 (aba) Evidence-based practice is an essential component in the healthcare practice since it ensures that appropriate clinical decisions are made as well as making sure that the best and current clinical practices and interventions are implemented. The implementation of evidence-based practices by a registered nurse and other healthcare professionals improves the provision of quality and safe patient care (Black, Balneaves, Garossino, Puyat, & Qian, 2015). Additionally, evidence-based practices are essential to BSN registered nurses since they are trained on best research strategies. Registered nurses are also able to connect scientific evidence to the clinical practices which assist in improving the patient’s outcomes. Black et al. (2015) indicate that the main purpose of evidence-based practices in the healthcare system is to reduce the variation in nursing practice as well as standardizing healthcare practices.
Evidence-based practice (EBP) has been shown to increase patient safety, improve clinical outcomes, reduce healthcare costs, and decrease variation in patient outcomes (Black et al., 2015). One way that the author will ensure continued implementation of evidence-based practice will be through routine interactions with fellow nurses. It will be my obligation to remind the nurses, patients, and other healthcare staff to ensure effective education and training on the appropriate implementation of care bundle intervention that includes proper hand washing, 0.1% chlorhexidine, proper meatal cleaning, proper insertion and catheter monitoring in the prevention and control of catheter-associated urinary tract infections. Additionally, it will be the responsibility of the author to keep pressing the hospital management to ensure that appropriate and adequate tools and equipment’s that supports the use of effective hand washing and adequate antibiotic solutions
While barriers will be encountered during the implementation process, it will be essential for the nurse and the healthcare system to overcome them. The main obstacle to effective implementation of care bundle intervention to prevent and reduce catheter-associated urinary tract infections will be financed. The hospital management may lack adequate resources to purchase, install, and maintain handwashing devices/equipment and regular training of healthcare professionals. Additionally, lack of knowledge and skills by nurses on effective techniques for inserting a catheter, poor skills of indwelling catheter removal, and monitoring are significant barriers within the healthcare system (Mathieson, Grande, & Luker, 2019). The researcher and the healthcare facility staff will request for donor funding from financial institutions and external funders. Well-wishers will also be encouraged to take part in planning the intervention. With enough financial resources, the healthcare facility will be able to effectively plan the intervention. Increased training through health and safety education will be performed in the healthcare system repeatedly. This will ensure that nurses and nurse aides are aware of the best intervention.
