Each student will submit a written report that summarizes the overall project effort. At the minimum, the report should
contain:

• Background information about the research subject (motivation, implications on business etc.)

• The findings on the research subject (for example, how an industry or organization has implemented or is
planning to adopt). In other words, everything that you found out (write down the findings in an organized way).

• Future predictions (opportunities / threats / challenges) and your recommendations.

• References list (e.g., books, articles, websites)

• Appendices
(if necessary) (e.g., interview questions, data tables, figures)

Submit an electronic copy of the research paper into the “Individual Project 2 Final Report” folder in Canvas by June

Hints and Tips on the Written Report
Pay attention so that following expectations are met in your research report

• Identification of challenges for the research subject for the present and for the future.
•
• Operations management concepts / theories / practices learnt / discussed in class.
•
• Quality of organization and structure of paper; clarity in expressing thoughts and concepts, good flow, good
introduction and conclusion.
•
• Quality, currency, and variety of sources cited – do not rely on only a few sources or only on the course
materials for your research. Proper setup of the bibliography and in body citation is critical.
•
• Proper grammar and spelling, appropriate length, follow instructions.
Report Grading Criteria
Papers will be graded on how well the assignment guidelines were followed, quality and quantity of information
presented; shown ability to critically assess / elaborate on your area of study (rather than simply repeating something
that has already been said before). The purpose of the report is to apply what you have learned in the class to your
chosen research subject (contemporary / futuristic use of operations management principles across supply chains).
Additional Suggestions

• Because the term paper needs to be written as a research paper, you must support your statements and
recommendations with appropriate facts, and statistics. Your paper is expected to include relevant,

current and credible business-related publications including quality-related operations / production
management journals and magazines.

• Refereed journals (i.e., peer reviewed; e.g., Harvard Business Review, Quality Progress, Journal of Operations
Management, Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, etc.) and/or respected lay journals
(e.g., Fortune, Business Week, Wall Street Journal) are good. These articles can be obtained either at the library (hard
copies) or through electronic databases.

• Web sources are acceptable but they should be used selectively. Additionally, not all websites are equally
good. However, websites with no validity may be those any of us could write and place on the web. Additionally,
corporate websites should be used sparingly. Over-reliance on one source is discouraged
