– Read the ANA Code of Ethics with Interpretative Statements and each of the 9 Provisions
– Select one of the situations below to complete your paper:
o Disclosing a Medical Condition- A patients’ brother asks you to avoid telling the
patient, his brother, he is dying. The patient asks you how he is doing and is he
dying.
o Informed Consent- A non-English speaking homeless patient was asked to sign a
consent form for a procedure. The patient does not speak or read English. The
consent is in English.
o Diversion- A friend and co-worker is diverting narcotics. The co-workers tells you they
“have it under control” and they ask you “not to tell the nurse manager because they need
the job.”
o Unplanned Pregnancy- An adolescent female was sexually abused by a male relative. She is
now pregnant. Your patient is in the pre-natal clinic asking you about an abortion. She is 18
weeks gestation.
– Write a 4-5 page paper, APA 7th edition student paper. The 4-5 pages does not include
the title page or the reference page. Do not include an abstract. Use the guidelines for a
“student” paper, see page 30 – 32 in your APA book. Submit the completed assignment
as a Word document, not a PDF document, using the link located in the Assignment

– Develop your APA compliant paper, addressing each of the items below:
o Provide an introduction to the paper (5 points)
o Explain why the selected situation is an ethical dilemma for the nurse (20 points)
