ENG 1101 Revision and Expansion of Essay For Essay 5, return to Essay 2 (Narration) and rethink it as a cause and effect essay. You explored an event and the buildup to it. But what caused that event to happen? And what was the effect or aftermath? Extend your essay by explaining the story in terms of cause and effect, and leave the narrative in place, possibly as a long introduction to the analysis you’ll perform to explain causes and effects. As you are working, take my feedback on your Essay 1 project and use it to create a new layer of descriptive detail so your described item is crystal clear and specific to your reader. This essay should be at least 750 words, and I expect you to correct all sentence level grammar issues I marked in my personal feedback (it was in an attached file with your grade). The rest of the Essay 2 graded papers will be returned to you by Tuesday, 2/19.And the basic Essay 2 work has been uploaded below. Hope your wonderful work. Wu 1

A Close Shave
It was a difficult time for the group as we had just been assigned to the Mudtown office.
Everyone well knew at this particular time that Mudtown was an area prone to violence. The
recent riots in the town and protests concerning the rising oil prices had made the area a no go
zone (Cox 16). However, we were placed in the line of duty, and this was our job as journalists.
The bureau chief had summoned us and told us to report to the ground immediately. The crew
had to gather the courage much needed for the difficult task ahead.
The journey was fast, and soon we were in the thick of all action. The driver parked the
car in a safe place. Smoke billowed through the air as we worked hard to find out where exactly
the commotion was (Cox 18). The loud sound of gunshots filled the air, and a cry could be heard
as people came running in our direction. We immediately caught sight of a crowd of people who
appeared to be running away from the police. I ran to the other side of the road with the crew
behind me as we took coverage of what was happening. The scene was horrific as we saw a lot
of injured people, with the rest of the crowd throwing stones and other crude materials at the
surging police.
I managed to grab hold of one elderly man who I saw struggle to get out of the way. As
the melee died down, we managed to interview him and ask for his thoughts concerning the

entire scenario. He described to me the issues affecting the town (Gerrig 27). I realized the
difficulties that these individuals faced as well as the issues affecting the locals. He gave me his
personal experience of having difficulties taking vegetables from the farm to the market, because
of the impassable roads. He explained that the situation had now been worsened by the fact that
fuel prices had been raised. I could feel the emotion in his face as he raised his feeble arms and
declared that the locals would fight till the bitter end.
As he toured me through the dilapidated buildings the elderly man, Paul, explained to me
that the citizens of the town had suffered quietly for long. His son had barely managed his way
out of high school, but he had no prospects of going to the university (Gerrig 38). Paul told me
that youth like his son was in the heart of the protests and there was no other way out. I
sympathized with the people of this town as their pleas seemed to fall on deaf ears. However, I
had gained the information I needed and knew that the bureau chief would be satisfied with our
findings. I summoned the crew, and we had nothing more to do but to go home. We found the
car and immediately drove off back to the new centre, our task was not complete.
