Environmental Health/Risk Communication is an important process used by an environmental
manager to explain environmental hazards/risks to interested groups (stakeholders).
For your second term paper assignment, select any noteworthy individual contaminated site,
hazardous/toxic agent release episode, or an infectious disease outbreak where you can research a
complete history of its environmental health and risk assessment, from identification to
remediation. Prepare a brief written review of the topic aimed at the audiences of both peer
environmental professionals and the general public.
For your selected environmental case-study, be as specific as possible in your geographic focus.
New Jersey located problem sites would be considered the easiest for you to research due to more
readily available published information in the FDU Library System; however, you are free to select
any U.S. or international site of interest. I recommend that you research your topic using three-to-
five different literature sources, using at least one of the following three (3) types of sources:
1. Governmental agency report 2. Scientific/professional journal 3. Popular periodical
(magazine) or newspaper. Your term paper should be both comprehensive in scope, but also
written concisely (five-to-eight typewritten pages would be an appropriate length).
