Synopsis: (include all pertinent information obtained in this lesson (Lesson 2). In this lesson, we will examine the socioeconomic factors involved in global health. Obviously, socioeconomic factors do influence nutritional status, so we will also look at global nutrition trends and common nutritional problems, such as under nutrition, micronutrient deficiencies, and obesity.We will also look at the interactions, biological, environmental, socio-economic, and political, in today’s world that impact health care.Then, we will look at the Institute of Medicine (IOM) and its Ecological Model of Health. This model identifies multiple determinants of population health including work and community, environment and health, and housing and health. It requires multiple community connections, including partnerships, and increased communication among various stakeholders.Finally, we will look at WHO Healthy Cities, a strong example of how cities are working toward improving the health of their citizens.
