Following the description of Impediments by Nosich, identify the relevant impediment(s) of 2-3
characters in a 30 minute episode of a sitcom of your choice. I suggest you watch the episode twice in
order to better understand the role of impediments in the episode. In your analysis you will need to
discuss how the characters embody particular impediments, as well as how the impediments drive the
plot, thus allowing us the laugh at the characters’ flaws. Remember, comedy helps us better cope with
impediments we have confronted in our own lives through laughter.
Length: 500-700 words, typed, following MI format. No secondary research should be used to develop
the analysis. Specifically state the impediments you’re applying in the analysis from the ones
discussed by Nosich.
Structure:
Opening paragraph: Introduce the title of the episode (in quotes) as well as the title of the sitcom
(italicize). Briefly summarize the plot in your own words. Don’t forget to include names of the
characters you will analyze in this paper.
End this paragraph with your thesis statement-a one sentence conclusion or result of your analysis. In
