FAQ’s:
Is there a required number of premises? No. What matters is you provide a valid argument to defend the answer to your question
(i.e. your conclusion or thesis). This might take 3 premises or it might take 10. It really depends on the question posed and your
particular argument. One student might successfully defend a question in 3 premises and another might formulate a different
argument with the same conclusions and take 6 premises to get there. Both could score A’s, just so long as they were both valid
arguments.
Can I write about a topic we didn’t cover in class? I would prefer you write on something at least related to what we’ve covered so
far. If you really hate this idea, set up a time to talk with me and maybe we could work something else out, but no promises. ?
How long should my argument be? Well, again, every argument is different. Most will be about ½ page or 1 page long. If you’re is
getting to be longer than 2 pages, let me know because something might be amiss.
