PUP 494 ASU Disruptive Innovation in the Public Transportation System Project Completing the Project This project is completed in three parts: Part 1. First, select a transportation-related innovation that can be considered a disruptive innovation. Part 2. (Worth 25 Points) Next, conduct a literature review, and create an evaluative annotated bibliography. Conduct an online search, utilizing internet sources as well as the ASU library online, to identify recent research that has examined the viability of the innovation and the potential impacts of the innovation on cities. You must find a minimum of ten sources of information about your innovation, three of which must consist of peer-reviewed academic journal articles. The other seven (or more) sources may be news articles, government websites, or other reputable sources. For each source, write a brief annotation that includes the following information: ? Final Project
Assignment Overview
As we discuss in this course, innovation in transportation involves the introduction of something new, whether
it is a new idea, method, or device. We discuss how innovations of the past helped transform US cities,
impacting the way people move about, as well as the urban structure and form within which this travel takes
place. We also examine how many of these new innovations could be considered disruptive. In other words,
these innovations are not well understood, involve new markets that are unpredictable, are dramatic and
game changing, and do not follow traditional business methods. We also discuss how these innovations may
hold the promise to significantly impact cities in the future.
This final project challenges you to examine one of the transportation innovations discussed during the
semester, or another innovation not discussed that would also be considered disruptive innovation, and
write a paper that critically analyzes the potential impacts on urban travel and urban form.
