For the News Talks, you will summarize major stories in the business news, ideally on a topic
that matches a topic from class.
Students should study business news every day, especially as it pertains to the core theme of this
course: strategy. To receive a good grade on these News Talks, students should explain how their
news items relate to the business strategy concepts we are discussing in class, plus give their
opinion on the topic. Please pick high-quality sources like the Wall Street Journal, The Economist
and The New York Times. Please avoid non-serious business news sources such as TMZ, Business
Insider and even Inc. or Forbes, which do not go very in-depth on any topic. The News Talk can
last no more than 3 minutes.

be news story from the last 3 months
be a “legitimate” source of news (NY Times, WSJ, The Economist,
Washington Post, etc – ie, not TMZ, Business Insider, Inc, etc)
• Should be a story that pertains specifically to a course concept. Tell us how,
exactly, how it does that – i.e. how it corresponds to course concepts (don’t
make us guess how it does).
• Gives 50% facts
• Gives 50% your opinion on the story
