The event report should be on a tour of Art Institute located in Chicago, IL. The professor had made up his own tour which I attached. The date of the tour in class was May 23rd of this year.

Purposes: This assignment should:

1) Make our readings and concepts present to you by directly connecting your classroom experience to the vibrant, multicultural reality existing outside of it;

2) Provide opportunities to apply your knowledge of course concepts to that reality; and

3) Inspire original, personal, and critical thinking.

I encourage you to seek out opportunities on campus, or in your community, or beyond it into our city (one of the greatest resources one could ask for when studying multiculturalism in the United States). Push yourself to engage with groups, lectures, or exhibitions with which you have little experience and expand your perspectives!

Assignment: At a time of your choosing, you must attend an event related to themes of multiculturalism outside of class. You will then provide a 3-page report explaining the event’s content and purpose, and an analysis that connects new insights from the visit that are relevant to our class concepts and discussions. The report should follow the same basic model as the Reading Analysis assignments, in which you SUMMARIZE the event (name the place, date, and time; if it is a lecture identify the speaker, if it is a museum describe the exhibitions, etc.), EXPLAIN the event (what inspired it, what inspired you to attend it, how you engaged with it), and ANALYZE the event (connecting the event to our course concepts and readings, possibly focusing on a specific stand-out moment, or evaluating the effectiveness of the event).

Particulars: – Minimum 3 complete pages; double-spaced; 1-inch margins all around; 12-point Times New Roman font. – Include time, date and place of event. – Do not add a cover page. – Include a title that signifies what your report is about (not just the name of the assignment). – Include your name, my name, the course number, and the date in the upper left corner. – Use conventional punctuation throughout.
