One of the interesting, and unique, characteristics of United States law enforcement agencies is their autonomy from one another. Think back through historical examples of how jurisdiction overlaps have been handled (or mishandled) between local, state, and federal agencies. Describe challenges arising from the way the US organizes its various agencies in terms of sharing information between them and their ability to mobilize against both internal and external threats to safety of our citizens. At the same time, the framers of our nation had good reason to limit the concentration of power in any one agency and/or person. Identify some strengths to our agencies’ relative autonomy from one another.
