Animal Behavior

1. (2pts) List at least 4 unique human behaviors.

2. (4pts) Many primate species live in large heterogeneous groups. Discuss the benefits of living in a large heterogeneous group and

Then discuss the benefits of a dominance hierarchy to primate species living in large heterogeneous groups.

3. (6pts) First, discuss how large body size versus small body size would influence the typical size of a heterogenous social group of a single primate species, all other factors considered equal.
Second, discuss how abundance of food versus scarcity of food would influence the size of a heterogenous social group of a single primate species, all other factors considered equal.
Then third€¦.hypothesize which two of the four factors above would result in both the smallest group size and the largest group size for two different primate species.

4. (4pts) Discuss 4 things you found most memorable from the video we watched in class: Ape Genius- Inside Ape Minds.

5. (5pts) Read articles 1 & 2 posted under:
Molecular Bases for Risk Taking Behavior in Humans €“ 4 Articles.
They discuss MAO (the enzyme MAO €“ monoamine oxidase), and also two neurotransmitters: dopamine and serotonin. Briefly summarize how these 3 molecules affect human behavior.

6. (5pts) Read articles 3 & 4 also posted under:
Molecular Bases for Risk Taking Behavior in Humans €“ 4 Articles.

Both of these articles are about toxoplasmosis, a contagious disease caused by a parasitic protista (eukaryotic, bigger than a bacteria, single celled) that can cross species lines and influence behavior. Summarize up the interesting points, touching on its apparent influence on mammalian behavior, and in particular its effects in human behavior.
