Role of the criminal justice professional
Criminal justice field is wide with varying roles and responsibilities assigned according to the position and the level of an officer. These professionals play a key role in ensuring that there is order in the society. This paper delineates on the key social needs contributing to the needs of criminal justice practitioner, their role, and impact of these roles on the criminal justice professionals.
The three social needs requiring contribution of criminal justice practitioners include harmonization of laws, acting as role models in representing the governing body and maintaining equality and justice among the community (Lacey, 2013). In harmonizing the laws, these practitioners make proposals to the laws pertaining to security and crimes that are suitable in given locations and states (Lacey, 2013). Examples of these laws include traffic laws among others. They also maintain equality and justice by ensuring that the offenders are fairly tried in the courts of law. They also help to whisk out criminals in the society hence promoting peace and security. AIDitionally, they act as role models of the government by being good ambassadors and executing their duties with professionalism to impact positively on the society.
Criminal justice professionals also serve the individuals and society needs in various ways. They oversee the safety of the individuals and society by maintaining order (Anthem College Online, 2014). They also respond to the emergencies such as fire, burglary, home conflicts, and any cases of disorder in the society. They protect individuals from aggression as well as their property, enforce laws and rules, and as well promote community relations. They achieve this through their patrols, intelligence services and prompt respond to calls. These practitioners also gather facts and document information about various cases they receive. They also prepare and maintain case files for individuals involved in crimes, categorize and estimate the similarities and differences, and detect any changes in information or circumstances (Holder, 2013). Through this role, they ensure that all individuals complaints are attended to and people get justice in the court of law.
The practitioners also provide testimony in various cases. They help courts to verify and ascertain various evidences contributing to justice. The practitioners also spent considerable time resolving conflicts and negotiating with different parties to reach amicable solutions or solve their differences (Anthem College Online, 2014). They solve disputes, grievances and conflicts, restoring peace and order. They also serve the people by ensuring timely communication and public relations by portraying themselves in good image as servants of the people. They have an obligation to be models for the people they serve by always embracing ethical standards in their service execution.
Key social issues impact on the role of criminal justice professional in many ways. They make them to be responsible and execute their duties with diligence. They must preserve their image to the public. Therefore, they have to act in a professional manner. It also makes them to put the needs of the members of the society before their self-interests as they execute the duties assigned to them (Holder, 2013). These social needs also affect them by instilling discipline in them to adhere to the law they aspire to enforce and maintain.
In conclusion, criminal justice professional is an important docket in ensuring that the security of the members of the society is enhanced. Security plays a key role in the social, political and economic development of any nation. The roles these professionals play are therefore critical to the society as well as instilling discipline among the practitioners.
