Dioxins belong to a group of compounds that are environmental pollutants and found all over the world. They are known to be incorporated in biological food chains and in the fat filled tissues of the body. Dioxins are known to enter the body through fish, meat and other animal products. They are extremely toxic compounds and are known to impair reproduction and cause developmental disorders. They also affect the immunity of the body and cause hormonal imbalance leading to deadly diseases such as cancer. Dioxins are present all around us and hence a back ground exposure to dioxins does not affect the health of a person. Chemically dioxin is 2,3,7,8- chlorofluorocarbon para dioxin (TCID). Poly chlorinated bedizen para dioxins (PCIDs) and poly chlorinated discouragements (PCDFs encompass a group of compounds collectively called dioxins. There are about 419 dioxins in which only as few as 40 have high toxicity. The most toxic dioxin is TCID.
