These changes are influenced by both biological factors, such as brain development, and environmental factors, such as the influence of peers and parents. Psychologist Diana Baumrind (1991, 1993) carried out a series of longitudinal studies on parentchild and parentadolescent interactions. She has identified a number of parenting styles that are associated with different kinds of adolescent development.
