hypothetical situation case study | Quick Solution

ANOTHER QUESTIONRead this hypothetical situation below:
KPN is a PR company working on a multi-million dollar project for a multinational conglomerate. To strengthen their performance, the headquarter office in NY decided to form a global TF team composed of the highest performing offices and their leaders from around the globe. Each member is a high echelon—either CEO or senior manager—in their offices.
The members are:
Gary (CEO of NY office)Chris (CEO of S. Korea office)Julia (Senior Manager of Germany office)Loretta (Senior Manager of Texas office)Bill (CEO of India office)Ed (CEO of Singapore office)Since the team was launched, it hasn’t been a smooth ride. There are a number of conflicts among these members regarding the followings:
Bossy leader: Gary only wants to have meetings according to his time which means those in different countries have to deal with early morning or late-night meetings. He thinks because he’s in the US and in NY, he has more power over others.
Leadership: Chris is unhappy that Gary just took over as a project leader when others also possess seniority and expertise. She is an ambitious woman but is often discouraged by such male-dominant structures.
Language barrier: E-mail, in general, is ok but the conference call is often disturbed due to the language difficulty. Loretta speaks very fast and doesn’t consider others’ language capacity. She thinks those who don’t speak English as their native tongue should just deal with the language difficulty. Julia, Chris, Bill, and Ed are always confused when Loretta speaks, and are unable to follow promptly.
Constant criticism that’s not constructive: Loretta has been constantly criticizing and attacking everything the group does. While she calls this constructive criticism, others disagree and see her as condescending and annoying. She often says, “Is this how you Asians do the job?”
Qs:
What is the most serious problem this team is experiencing? If you were to join the team as a new member, how would you deal with the situation where intercultural conflicts constraint team performance?
