Class Research on Academics and Behavior

Choose a class to focus on for your research. In the overview, describe them academically, behaviorally (how they work in class and respond to rules and procedures) and socially (how well they interact with their peers in groups).  Note any exceptional emotional or major discipline issues when reviewing the demographics of the selected class.
Include lesson plans or unit outline that show how you implemented the strategies being evaluated. Include an overall summary of the unit or lessons outlining the proposed objectives.
Record how the students responded to each lesson.
Post random student samples/work from the unit
Analyze the students’ work over time including these items:
Comprehension
Motivation to participate
Summarize your overall findings
Assess if the students met the intended goal of the unit:
The impact the strategy had on your students
What you learned from this experience and any changes you would make when teaching this unit in the future
Post a lesson plan outlining differentiated strategies for the diverse learners in your classroom. After you teach the lesson, summarize your reflection on the process and the success of student engagement. Will you alter or change the original plan? Assess the lesson with a critical eye. Things to consider in your reflection: student success with the overall learning objective, relativity to real world learning and lesson rigor.

Complete a detailed reaction summary/narrative reflecting your thoughts from the assigned reading. I will focus on what you can take away from the topic discussions and apply to your classroom.
Items to include in your summary:
1.What ways do you use the knowledge of the individual differences in your classroom to become a better teacher?
2. identify procedures for reducing or eliminating the biases you may have when interacting with your students. Research by Gage and Berliner (1998) identify a number of ways in which teachers’ interactions with students can be biased.
3. Describe your position as to the usefulness of intelligence tests when developing instructional units. What assessments do you find most reliable when evaluating the overall skill level of your students and differentiating instruction?
