Reflection Paper #4 – Self Reflection on Gender, Aging, & Family
The purpose of a reflection paper is to demonstrate what you have learned about principles (theories & concepts) of sociology. This reflection paper is an assessment to demonstrate the completion of the assigned readings, viewed the video, and understand course concepts as how they apply to the world around us.
A reflection paper should be at least two full pages of content and should report some of your thoughts about the topics in question. The questions below are not “yes/no” types of questions. You should view those questions as guides to your thinking/writing. The utilization of course concepts and sociological vocabulary is required. Use sociological terms/vocabulary throughout your paper. You should show what you know about Sociology in your writing and how it applies to this film and yourself.
Stick to specifics from the film and use examples. Write about the observations from your experience and from the experiences of others. Feel free to raise other issues suggested by the reading/video but make sure it applies to the course topics.
When you refer to the text, the video, or other sources, use APA citations and include a reference. APA calls it’s a Reference page, not a Works Cited page. This is necessary to avoid plagiarism. If you are unfamiliar with APA citations and references then utilize the resources in Blackboard, your syllabus, or contact the LTC Academic Skills Center. Make sure you have read “Guidelines for Written Work” on page 9 of this document.
Address the following questions for Reflection Paper #4:
Review the concepts and theories from Chapters 12 (Gender, Sex, and Sexuality), Chapter 13 (Aging and the Elderly), and Chapter 14 (Marriage and Family).
Choose one of the following films from Kanopy films:
Gen Silent (64 minutes) https://gotoltc.kanopy.com/video/gen-silent (use the other link i provided up there)
After viewing one of the film’s listed above, highlight 3-5 main concepts covered in the film.
THEN apply sociological theories, concepts, and vocabulary from Chapters 12, 13, and/or 14 to what was covered in the film. Discuss examples from the film and apply terms throughout your discussion. If applicable, discuss what you have learned about yourself or others.
