ENG 302 Virginia Commonwealth Week 4 EHR Issue Audience and Genre Analysis Paper Part 1
Now that we’ve identified a potential stakeholder audience with decision-making authority on your issue, it’s time to start thinking about how best to convince that audience.
Remember that the audience you choose for Project 2 should be one with decision-making authority on the issue you’ve chosen whose perspective on the issue you disagree with. Keep this in mind as you work on this activity.
Instructions
Respond to the Discussion Board forum above and create a new thread with your name and field as the Subject line. Then use the stakeholder you identified in Part 2 of the Stakeholder (Audience) Analysis Worksheet in Lesson 14 for this activity (so long as they have a view you disagree with!) and respond to the following:
What might this stakeholder already know about your chosen issue?
What might they still need to learn?
What kinds of values, beliefs, and/or assumptions might they hold in regard to this issue?
What kind of evidence would be most persuasive to this stakeholder: personal experience, expert testimony, statistical data and research findings, and/or some combination of these? Why?
What personal experience, if any, do you have with this issue that might be compelling to this audience?
What expert testimony have you found in you research that this audience might be compelled by? Include a source that provides such testimony here.
What statistical data or research findings have you found that might be compelling to this audience and why? Include a source that provides such data or findings here
Part 2
We’ve now spent several weeks identifying, researching, and analyzing your chosen issues; developing strong research questions to ask about them; and identifying potential stakeholders. Now it’s to figure out where you stand!
YOUR THESIS AND COUNTERARGUMENT
To help you begin to craft your own argument about this issue and identify potential counterarguments, please answer the following question in a praragraph, citing your sources where appropriate:
Your working thesis statement, followed by a short explanation of your position on the issue. (Remember that your thesis statement is your answer to your research question. It’s also arguable: Someone has to be able to disagree with your thesis.)
At least three reasons for your thesis, or position, supported by evidence.
Your stakeholder’s position, or counterargument. (Remember that this position must be one with which one you disagree!).
Your concession, or the areas of the stakeholder’s position you sympathize with or understand.
Your rebuttal, or how you might refute the stakeholder’s position with evidence and/or reasoning.
