Exploratory Writing Exercise #3 #3: Working Bibliographies
This next writing exercise is a Working Bibliography, because it is a document containing citations for all potential sources you might choose to use in your research project. A working bibliography is a fantastic tool to utilize during the early stages of your research process as it allows you to easily organize the sources you have gathered, and will also save you time at the end of the writing process, because your citations will already be complete.
You will need to include citations for a minimum of five (5) sources.
Remember!! A working bibliography DOES NOT contain annotations or other information. It is merely an in-progress list of the sources you are gathering and evaluating for your research project. You may want to refer to the process handout on Google Classroom for writing a working bibliography if you are not sure how to go about this.
Purpose
The primary purpose of this assignment is to give you practice with citation in a lower stakes environment than a FFN draft. Additionally, it allows me the opportunity to respond to specific troublespots I encounter in your citations, to help you resolve them in future assignments.
Formatting
You should format your citations according to the MLA style guides found in your EasyWriter textbook. Other resources include the Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL) found here, and the WVU Libraries.
Your writing exercise should be formatted using MLA conventions. Please refer to your EasyWriter textbook, or follow this link: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/747/24/ for the Purdue OWL guidelines for MLA formatting.
Assignment Requirements
You are always welcome to write MORE than the minimum, or recommended, amount especially if you need to do so to get to each component of the prompt.
The necessary components of this assignment are:
- A working title for the project/bibliography
- MLA citations for at least five (5) sources you have found so far
- A document that is formatted/styled according to the MLA guidelines for bibliographies
Your writing exercises will be marked out of 5 points. Below is a rubric that outlines how I will be evaluating/marking your writing exercises.
