Read Chapter 4, The Studio System.
Watch “The Killers” (1946, NOT 1964) OR “Duck Soup” (1933) OR “Roman Holiday” OR “It Happened One Night” OR “Singing in the Rain,” OR “Ben-Hur,” (1959, NOT 2016).
In about 200 to 250 words, answer this question: How does this film reflect the studio system you read about in Chapter 4?
The idea of the key question is that during the golden years of the studio system, each studio was known for making a certain kind of movie, typically. It’s kind of like car companies. Toyota is known for making fuel-efficient, comfortable, low-maintenance cars, while GM is known for making large, gas-guzzling SUVs. Or think of brands, like of shoes. A Doc Martens creates a different impression than a Louis Vuitton. What this means for this assignment is that you need to show how this movie reflects the studio’s style or brand.
