Case Study 1- Evolution of the Interwar System of the Early 1920s to 1941

The interwar period evolved such that the end of World War 1 culminated in the eruption of World War 2. The changes that took place in the interwar period birthed the emergence of the Second World War. Changes were orchestrated by race relations, prohibition, great depression, music and radio, and gender and sexual relationships. Prohibition emanated from the hostility that had been triggered by vengeance among the nations that were at loggerheads, a matter that could not be mitigated by the League of Nations. The League of Nations rejected the membership of Germany as a power that orchestrated war (Tosi, 2017). Following World War 1 was a great depression that encumbered many people, especially the civilian non-combatants who experienced the war and families that had been believed.

The great depression promoted the formation of alliances to enable the nations that were in antagonism from the aggression of their enemies. Temin (2016) argues that the great depression had its roots in an economic depression that occurred during World War 1. Besides, the interwar system evolved in terms of changes in the use of radio and music. Keil (2017) states that changes in the discourses of media houses occurred, such as the international order underwent various changes. Arts and film development are some of the aspects that brought about changes that brought an evolution in the global order. The implication of this is that these developments impacted many nations because of their potency to give them an upper hand against enemy nations (Haliwel, 2019). Evolution in international order also occurred in the interwar period appropriated in terms of sexual relations and gender. Pumphrey (2017) argues that in interwar Detroit, changes occurred along racial and sexual lines. The factors that led to the evolution of international order in the interwar period were therefore diverse and had significant impacts on the emergence of World War II.

Case Study 2- Evolution of the Cold War System

With its onset in 1947, the cold war system underwent drastic changes that have since abated the economic prowess of the Soviets. Strangling the economic power of the Soviets was instigated by military spending policies of the superpowers of the world, especially the US. The emergence of the Soviet Union as a superpower was seen at the end of the Second World War Koenig & Doerry (2019) states that one of the aspects that propagated changes during the cold war to foretell nations that would become great powers was the industrial revolution.  Indirect war is one of the matters that emerged during the cold war whereby strong powers opt to fight the weaker powers that are allied to more potent powers. One example is the US-Vietnam war, which was orchestrated by the need to protect the security interests of the US (Kort, 2018). Another propelling factor of evolution during the cold war era is the use and development of nuclear weapons. Becker (2020) states that the development of atomic weapons was used and has been used as a strategy because it has been expedient. The convenience of having nuclear weapons during the cold war propelled evolution.

The tension between significant world powers also brought about the evolution of international order because it made these powers to stand aloof from one another with the fear of confrontation (Mascitelli & Chung, 2019). After thwarting the domination of the Soviets in Eastern Europe, the Americans and the British sought to protect these territories from being taken over by the Soviets. Besides, the emergence of proxy wars during the cold war, primarily orchestrated by the Americans, was a key driver of change (Rauta & Mumford, 2019). Moreover, international affairs and diplomacy were immensely affected, leading to a situation whereby people shifted their focus only to their allies.
