2 – Your data sample must be pre-approved by Prof Doyle by Thurs., April 11th
3 – See pages 2 & 3 for detailed instructions
Part #1: Research Narrative
•
•
•
Describe/discuss the difference between a population and a sample. Give examples.
Describe/discuss various types of sampling methods (Ch 7 and research)
Explain the difference between non-probability based vs. probability-based
methods for collecting a sample from a population
o How would you ensure the sample was from a probability method?
o Share the sampling method you might use
Part #2: Data Analysis
•
•
•
•
•
Choose a sample of 30-50 observations with three quantitative variable columns
Complete data statistics for each variable
Chart each variable
Compute a 95% confidence interval
Research articles/resources similar to your data topic
•
Complete a narrative report
o that interprets/describes your data (okay to copy and paste charts and/or
data stats from Excel’s Data Analysis Tool, but be sure the format of your
report remains readable and professional
o that speaks to what the charts tell you/show the reader
o that discusses your related articles and how they compare to your results
as appropriate
Part #3: Raw Data
•
Print your raw data and other Excel files and put in an Appendix to your report
Part #4: Citations
•
Use APA style

Project #2 – Part 1—This Part is worth 50 Points*
Due by: Tuesday, MAY 7th (By 1:30 P.M.) Extensions of due date/time will NOT be granted.
Objective: To demonstrate your understanding as to the types of Datasets and the various Sampling
Collection Methods
I.
Based on your knowledge of Data and Sampling, please present discussion as to the difference
between a Sample and a Population, including a relevant example—using the following as
Suggested Headings, in grammatically-complete construction, to create effective, substantive
paragraphs, as well as Proper Citations/Complete Reference Information, as per APA Style:
Data Represented By a Population
❑ Please provide description, discussion, and rationale as to what constitutes a Population
❑ Please include Relevant Example(s) [your BSAD221 Project 2 Dataset, can be used for instance]
Data Represented By a Sample
❑ Please provide description, discussion, and rationale as to what constitutes a Sample
❑ Please include Relevant Example(s) [your BSAD221 Project 2 Dataset, can be used for instance]
II.
With respect to your knowledge of the various types of Sampling Methods, please present discussion
and explanation as to the following Data Collection Methods: Non-Probability and Probabilitybased Methods for collecting a Sample from a Population – Using the following suggested
Headings:
Data Collection Methods – Non-Probability v. Probability-based
❑ Please provide descriptions and explanation as to the difference between Non-Probability and Probability
Methods
Using a Probability-based Method
❑ Please discuss how would you collect a Sample to ensure it was a Probability-based method
❑ Please specify the Sampling Method(s) would you use, and how would you employ it (them)
Other Comments:
➢
This part of the project is an individual assignment and will contribute toward 20% of your course grade
*Evaluation:
High-Quality Discussion/Explanation – Sample, Population, Sampling Methods
Effective Construction of Rationale/Discussion, Spelling, Grammar, Punctuation
40 Points
10 Points
*Your Evaluation will based on measurable criteria (e.g., numerical continuum—from Exemplary to Failure
for Critical Thinking work; alphabetical scoring—from A to F Scale for Exams, etc.) that provide evidence as to
your consistently (or inconsistently) achieving (or failing to achieve) specific academic competencies outlined
within the learning objectives. In particular, Case Analyses, Essay responses, all Written Reports, and
Verbal Discussion will be sources (i.e., Learning Events), from which Critical Thinking will be assessed, as
part of Grading Criteria.

Project #2 – Part 2—This Component is worth 100 points*
Due by: Tuesday, MAY 7th (By 1:30 P.M.)
Objective: To demonstrate proficiency in Data Collection, Descriptive Statistics, and Inferential Statistics
Requirements:
1. Please locate a set of Data from an authentic Online or Text-based source (e.g. Websites identified
during class) that is of interest to you. The Data Set must include at least 30 Observations and at
least 3 Quantitative Variables—Please refer to the Data Sources Provided and/or A/S/W Text.
2. Please summarize the Data Set using Descriptive Statistics Tools {i.e., Tabular, Graphical, and
Numerical representation} discussed in class. If your Data Set includes more than 3 Variables,
please select 3 to analyze. At a minimum, each variable analyzed should have one Graphical
depiction and a Set of Descriptive Statistics.
3. Please create a Confidence Interval to estimate the population parameter {i.e., Mean or Proportion}
for the variables selected above.
4. Please locate other Data related to your Data Set (e.g. relevant articles about your topic, a comparable
Data Set) and evaluate this additional information in conjunction with your Data Set. You must have
a minimum of 2 related items incorporated into your report.
Please prepare a typed-written Report summarizing the above. Your Report should include the following
sections:
1. Description of the Data {i.e., what it is, the types of variables, the source}—including Citations
2. Description of Statistical Analysis performed {i.e., Descriptive and Inferential}
3. Description and Interpretation of the Results
4. Description and Interpretation of articles and related source material—including relevant citations
5. Overall Conclusions on your Data Set
6. Reference List—APA Style
7. Appendix: Statistical Output, Tables, Charts, etc.
Other Comments:
➢ Please present a copy of your selected Data Set to Professor Doyle by Thursday, April 11, 2019
➢ All sources [e.g., Websites, Articles (Online and Library-based), etc.] must be fully Cited within the Report,
and completely listed within the References Section, as per APA Style
➢ This is an Individual Project that must be completed Individually—ONLY, and will contribute toward 20%
of your course grade..
*Evaluation:
Selected Data Set
Written Report {i.e., Accurate content knowledge applied and explained/Item’s 1-5 above}
Presentation of Statistical Analyses {i.e., Visual Quality of Appendix/Item 6 above}
Sentence Structure, Spelling, Grammar, Punctuation, Organized Construction/Headings, etc.
