An Examination of the DACA recipients and the Political influences in the Higher
Education in The United States of America
I.
Introduction
The distinct ethnicities in America could help the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals
(DACA) recipients to abolish the suffering of minority groups to achieve their “American
Dream” with a higher education. Like Nelson Mandela said, “Education is the most powerful
weapon which you can use to change the world”. The program was launched in 2012 by an
executive order of the American ex-president Barack Obama to help individuals who came to the
United States before their 16th birthday to allow individuals to apply to colleges and to allow
those people to work. The program allowed individuals to have a lawful immigration status for
only two years with eligibility to work in the U.S., which now the president Trump
administration is trying to end. From this matter, racial segregation and discrimination between
people of color is still a problem with our educational system with our DACA recipients where if
they end the program, they will suffer from socioeconomic hardships, discrimination and not
able to have an education in the American system.
II.
Statement of Purpose
The research will focus on the DACA recipients and their political influence on higher
education. Through this research, the extensive groups of people, especially minority groups
(any ethnicity), would come together to understand this program and the importance for the
DACA recipients. However, scholars, including politicians and people around the world will
appreciate the importance of the power and the influence of education towards the DACA
recipients with the approaches to the political influence in education in the states. The research
will address the following research questions:
III.
Research Questions
1. Why is it important for DACA recipients to be able to have the program in place?
2. How does political education take place with the enrollment of DACA recipients in
their schools?
3. Did the DACA recipients receive support from other groups or minorities?
The research would be significant and essential because it will inform the public and
policymakers that it could let the Supreme Court rule in favor of this program for the individuals
that are DACA recipients. They will embrace all the approaches with the emphasis on education
on DACA and the problems and other social challenges that prevent this program from being
alive.
IV.
Methodology
The methodology will incorporate the use of historical, existing data research, and a case
study to achieve the objectives of the investigation. The data research will come from archival
documents, and the current data will help the investigator to establish how the influence of
DACA recipients could influence the movement in the U.S. to establish their proper right for an
education.
V.
Literature Review
The literature review will consider books, journals, newspapers, and speeches, among
other sources, to write about how the influence of DACA recipients could influence the
movement in the U.S. to establish their proper right for an education. Scholars argue that race
shows and take place in every school and state. The racial category on being white or black or
foreign was growing in the United States, according to a U.S. census in 1970. (Joel Spring, p
125). Indeed, The Atlantic education article argues that DACA recipients are students with an
intellectual mind that could potentially be members of the workplace at top universities in the
state. (The Atlantic Education). Yanet Limon-Amado from The Washington Post stated, “Instead
of thinking of my final papers, I am thinking about whether Supreme Court justices and state
lawmakers will allow me to graduate.” UVA being in the top rank of colleges in the nation,
Yanet does not want to determine her accomplishments because of her immigration status.
Besides the power of the government living them paying the international fee throughout the
years they do not have accessibly to in-state tuition even though DACA recipients have been
living their lives in the same state since they came to the United States of America looking for
the unknowing. The book of American Education by Joel Spring it examines the discussions
about the education after the election of President Donald Trump and the U.S. Secretary of
Education Betsy DeVos. His book has two parts, which the first one analyzes the school and
society, and the second part talks about the power and the control in American education. This
book gives you a perspective on the issues shaping the American Educational system, which we
can analyze with the DACA recipients and the ambitions to have an education in the United
States. Moreover, The American Dream and the Public Schools by Hochschild and Scovronick
examines the conflicts and the principals of the school’s system. This book is important for the
understanding of DACA recipients and the examination of the political influence in education
because it shows how privileged individuals can have access and benefits because of their race,
class, and other status in society (Hochschild & Scovronick).
