University of Houston Victoria Foreign Disinformation Plot Targeting Congress HW Discussion 7
Imagine that you have just been elected to the 117th Congress. As you take your seat in Washington, D.C., you must consider how you will evaluate public opinion as you represent your constituents. Will you approach your responsibilities as a delegate and follow public preferences in your district closely or will you approach your responsibilities as a trustee taking advantage of your knowledge and the reality that the public does not have well-structured attitudes towards public policies? Explain.
Please be sure to respond to my question and write at least 100 words using proper spelling and grammar.
Discussion 8
Political parties serve a valuable role connecting citizens with their government. It is unlikely that we can eliminate political parties in the United States, but parties have adapted to changes in electoral rules. James Madison identified the importance of factions in Federalist #10 and would his conception of our government be reinvigorated if the United States adopted a system of proportional representation that made it easier for third parties to gain seats in government or are we better off maintaining our first-past-the-post system organized around two dominant parties? Explain (do not argue that if the current situation is not broken, there is no need to fix it).
Please be sure to respond to my question and write at least 100 words using proper spelling and grammar.
Unit blog
A system of representative government works when citizens are informed and can hold their elected officials accountable for their actions. One of my goals in this class is encouraging you to pay closer attention to current events and the world around you. Each week I introduce you to different principles and concepts and the blog provides an opportunity for you to apply those concepts in a way that you can master the concepts and principles by applying them to events occurring now. You need to find a news article or op-ed about U.S. politics/government/policy (not an encyclopedia entry, website summary, press release, etc.) that deals with one of the subjects we discussed during Unit #4. In order to earn full credit, the article or op-ed must have been written in the last six months, you must draw a clear connection between the subject of the article/op-ed and a concept or principle from class, write at least 100 words using proper spelling and grammar, and include a link (the URL) to the article in your post. Please make sure your post is not substantially similar to Graded Discussion #7 or Graded Discussion #8.
The topic I choose for unit 4 blog is Political Parties in the United State
